Bellevue Lady Eagles fly over Perrin Lady Pirates in bi-district

ARCHER CITY – Bellevue Coach John McGee appeared to have a simple game plan for his Lady Eagles’ bi-district game with Perrin Feb. 17: Attack the basket and let nothing get in the way.

His players did just that after Perrin get out to a quick 2-0 lead, scoring the next 12 points on layups with Lady Pirate defenders already at the basket. The Lady Eagles kept pounding away at Perrin, using speed at the guard position to pull away and post a 64-36 Region III-A win at Wildcat Gym.

Perrin, the third place team out of District 21-A, ends its year at 16-9 while Bellevue, the second place team out of District 22-A, moves on at 25-11.

A pair of Kamryn Staggs free throws got Perrin on the board and would be the only lead the Lady Pirates would have. Bellevue guard Sky-Lar Embry was the main catalyst behind the early Lady Eagle run with three buckets.

After the 12-2 run, Perrin finally got out of its funk and got rolling offensively. Junior Nayeli Lopez picked up the squad’s first basket with 3:51 left in the first after Perrin missed its first six shots.

Kelli Tucker added a bucket and free throw to aid the cause and Perrin found itself down 19-10 at the end of one, despite shooting 2-of-13 from the field.

Bellevue converted 8-of-14 in the first and did little to hurt that in the second, pushing the lead into the teens in the first minute courtesy of another double digit run. Perrin continued to suffer from shooting woes, missing its first eight of the quarter before an Aaliyah Brown hoop with 3:48 left in the half. Savannah Burkett’s basket along with a Brown free throw were the only offense the rest of the quarter.

Brown led Perrin with 10 points. Tucker and Lopez each had eight points. Trail had 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second half for Bellevue.
