JHS joins Bass fishing organization

JIDSD has a new sport for its students too compete in as bass fishing has joined the list.

A number of Jacksboro students took part in a tournament in Lake Lewisville in late September and did fairly well for their first tournament, according to spokesperson Michael Crunk. Jacksboro had four teams compete led by the duo of Colin Bouldin and Tyler Mitchell who brought in 8.59 pounds of bass. Oeyton Kinman and Pacus Wilbur were Jacksboro’s second best bringing in 7.08 pounds of fish. Bryson Crunk brought in one fish for his team, a 2.27 pounder while Kasey Swan II and Jackson McComis combined for one fish at 2.24 pounds.

All fish were catch and release. The JHS teams caught 10 fish for 20.18 pounds.

“Twenty schools were represented at the event,” Crunk said. “208 teams fished from all the schools.”

Fishermen were out on the lake from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weighed their fish in at 4:30 p.m. , Crunk said.

The Texas High School Bass Fishing Association can be an expensive proposition, as teams must have boats, sponsors, and captains. There are divisions all over the state, including the West Division where Jacksboro competes out of.Schools can compete in other divisions, where Jacksboro went into North Texas to take part in the Lake Lewisville tournament.

Other kids wanted to take part, Crunk explained, but there were not enough sponsors, boats and/or captains for all. The school’s next meet is Oct. 17 at Possum Kingdom Lake.

Tournaments go through the Spring with regional April 17 with State set for May 15-16 at Lake Texoma.
