Back at it after a trip

Wed, 10/07/2020 - 5:00 am

A week off from football is normally a chance to do what you need to do.

Still, when you’ve been doing something for 35 years, it’s hard to get out of a rut during the Fall. .

I headed to East Texas Friday to visit with my dad’s wife and new husband. They wanted us to come for Homecoming of his grandson as he was up for court.

COVID has effected others, as my home state was going to have Football this Spring but cooler heads prevailed and they’re having a six-game schedule instead of a nine. Before the season in Michigan got rolling, my buddy Larry would stream the Jacksboro games just so he could have some football here to listen to.

Heather and I got to the stadium early and quickly saw at the stadium what tough on COVID meant. Everyone had face shields, not just fabric masks but face shields. You see those everywhere in stores everywhere.

Got to the field after paying $12 to park at the school (failed bond for a new stadium). Had someone ask me if I wanted a program. Hit a concession stand which was open two hours before kick and had its full menu ready. I wasn’t there that early.

About 45 minutes before kick, David walked his grandson out on the field. He was not named King but was kind of relieved as, as it is in many cases, it’s a popularity contest. He was cool, thanked us all for coming and took off for the rest of his Friday evening.

Apparently Barb though we weren’t staying for the game. David put the kibosh on that … at least for us two guys. Heather took our car and her and Barb went home to drink wine and chill.

Unfortunately, the school picked the wrong opponent for its Homecoming, as it suffered a 35-13 setback. Still, it was fun watching a game and not having to worry about who wins.

David and I went and found a place to eat, get to meet each other and find what makes each other tick. It’s all good and I wish him and Barb the best of luck.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
