The Jacksboro 7th grade football team is learning how important conversions are after touchdowns. The Tigers have come out on the short end of 8-6 ballgames for two weeks in a row.
In the loss to Comanche, Oct. 11 the Jacksboro offense was stagnant until the 2nd half. After falling behind 8-0 Lando Belcher found Jett Davenport for a 35-yard touchdown pass, but the conversion pass fell incomplete.
The Tigers looked poised to win the game after driving 90 yards in the final 2 minutes only to have the clock run out after Kasey Ray Swan was tackled on the 3-yard line. The final drive was keyed by a 20 -ard run by Peyton Kinman and a 60-yard pass from Belcher to Kinman.
Defensively, O’Neil Gardner supplied a big hit on the Indian running back to stop the Comanche 4th quarter drive and give the Tigers a chance to mount a comeback.
The second 2 point loss came at home against the Tolar Rattlers Oct. 18. The Jacksboro defense shut down the Tolar offense all night except for one pass play that resulted in a Rattler TD.
The Jacksboro score came on a Kinman eight-yard scamper, but the conversion pass couldn’t be corralled. The offense was paced by hard running from Swan, Belcher, Kinman, Edwin Esqueda, and Jackson McComis. Davenport and Kinman also had big receptions for the Tigers.
Mason McAnear and Pacus Wilbur set the tone on defense with tough play up front.
The next game will be at Dublin today which will be played at the high school, not the regular game field due to heavy rain.
