The Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates had a big last week defeating the Santo Ladycats in a three set sweep. This increases the team's record to 13-7 at the time of this article’s writing.

Set one was probably the closest set the team had in terms of competition against the Ladycats. It was a close bout overall, but the team ended up pulling away and winning the first set by a score of 25-18.

Lady Pirates head coach Rebekah Bland said that while the team won the contest in the end, one of their biggest points of focus going forward will be starting strong.

“We’ve got to start strong and stay strong,” Bland said. “We are tending to start slow with our mistakes and digging a hole we have to climb out of.”

The team had no issue handling business against Santo in the second set of the game picking up a 25-14 set win, moving them one step closer to winning the match as a whole.

One thing that Bland praised as one of the team's strengths was their defensive ability.

“Our blockers at the net did a great job slowing and stopping Santos hitters,” Bland said.

Bland also went on to say that Lucchese Reilly was electric at the service line leading the way to the win.

The team’s third and final set was their most dominant performance of the match with a 25-13 set three win and match victory.

Bland also named Baylee Meadows and Mackenzie Green as players that made an impact on the win with Meadows putting in work at the front of the net and Green leading the team in assists in the match.

Overall, even though the team has had a strong start to the season, Bland thinks the team is still working on building consistency and confidence.

“We are still working out kinks and trying to be more consistent,” Bland said. “Staying confident in their play and ability is key.”

After playing in a tournament in Strawn Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 28-30, and playing against Olney Tuesday, Sept. 2, the team will play against Strawn and Breckenridge in matches Saturday, Sept. 6, in Breckenridge at 10 a.m.
