Letter to the Editor

Wed, 02/10/2021 - 5:00 am

This is an editorial provided to you by your neighbor. First I ask that you do your own research.

I attended the meeting (Thursday) night at the Jacksboro Twin Lakes Center presented by the North Texas Heritage Association (a 501c4 organization … the first place to begin your research.) We are against wind turbines and hope you will add your voice in your County Commissioner’s ears.

I will present the argument against wind turbines because I see zero positives:

Economic impacts:

Property Devaluation – The wind turbine company will ask commissioners to vote for a tax abatement zone or what is equal to a “re-investment zone”

If you think you might just sell your property and move, well, if that “zone” is voted in real estate agents have to disclose that to prospective buyers. I don’t know about you, but I’m here to enjoy my land not destroy it.

Agricultural loss – Fact weather changes 14 miles downwind from turbines and results in lower rainfall. Livestock health is threatened from vibrations.

Reduced tourism – Fact people don’t like tourist attractions close to turbines and never come back. It just amazes me that we, John Q. Public, hate wind turbines so much but here we are living with them. Why? Because people don’t speak up?

Other losses include health issues, ecological impact, loss of hunting leases, wind companies are historically notorious for making promises and not delivering. Why would they? They have succeeded in seducing their leasees. In Tax increases to the citizens because of the “tax abatement” to the wind companies. Estimated tax increase for each citizen is about $508/year.

The oil and gas industry is highly regulated. The wind companies have ZERO regulation. The only entity that can remove wind turbines is the federal government. The foot print for a single wind turbine is 50’ by 50’ by 80’ on 80 to 100 acres. It takes 10,000 to 15,000 acres for a wind farm Not what I want in my back yard.

Green energy? I don’t think so.
