Getting better every day

Wed, 01/27/2021 - 5:00 am

It’s been said you can’t keep good man down.

For a few weeks I haven’t been able to breathe right and have had trouble moving up and downstairs. My doctor doesn’t approve to be horribly worried, so I’ve decided to not be as well.

On the positive side, I’ve decided to get back or the radio and do halftime stats. There was a time where I couldn’t muster the air or not cough for the ability to give the halftime stats on the radio.

The other night I gave the stats for both games and was able to have conversations with both color personnel during my time on the radio, so that’s a good sign that I’m turning things around.

Figured I’d give readers an idea on how area basketball teams are doing and their odds of a basketball playoff spot this week. Here we go:

Jacksboro:

The boys are 1-5 after the first round of 7-3A action. The but have been in nearly every game except City View. Most of the other ones have been single digit losses, which makes this team fun to watch. The Tigers owe Nocona a game as the girls first meeting was moved. Still, a lucky bounce here or there and the Purple are invited to the dance.

The girls are 4-4 right now but have big games this week vs. Bowie and at Holliday (which I don’t have results for at press time.) Jacksboro lost close games to the pair in the first round but, like the boys, a bounce here or there and the Tigerettes are on the dance floor as well.

Bryson:

The Cowgirls are in need of a wakeup call to get into the playoffs. they’ve had some bad luck with injuries at inopportune times. Hoping the best for them.

The Cowboys on the other hand are in good shape, even after losing a heartbreaking game at home to Perrin recently, one where they led by 21 at the half and 14 going into the fourth quarter.

Still, Slade Egan’s boys have nine seniors to work with, ones that want to go out with with a bang. Let’s see what happens.

Perrin:

Pretty much similar here to Bryson here. Perrin’s girls beat Bryson by 20 in the first meeting but the Cowgirls were without two starters and obviously off their game. The rematch is Feb. 2 in Perrin.

The Pirates overcame a double digit deficit in the waning minutes vs. Bryson, which their rematch is also Feb. 2.

Graford:

I’ve started covering Graford because those that were no longer exist.

The girls have a chance for the third and final spot. The Lady Rabbits have beaten Bryson already and had their rematch Friday night (see story, Page 8). A win over Bryson would hurt the Cowgirls’ chances at the postseason.

The Rabbits are rolling through district in the early going, winning their three games by an average of 91-23. Their two losses are to Slidell by one point in overtime and to Class 4A Glen Rose.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

We’ll see ya down the road.
