Steward “SF” Damron 1930-2020

Steward “SF” Damron went to be with His Lord & Savior on August 30 in Granbury.

A Celebration of his life was held on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Coker Funeral Home Chapel.

SF was born on Dec. 29, 1930 to Gillie Steward Damron and Ollie (Kinnard) Damron in Jack County. SF was the oldest of 5 loving siblings. He graduated from Bryson High School in 1949. In 1952, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for over 23 years until his retirement in 1975.

SF married the love of his life Peggy Dean Lackey in Fort Worth on June 29, 1956. They were stationed in many places such as Great Lakes, IL, Honolulu, HI, Albuquerque, NM, and Prairie View, TX. In 1975, he began his second career with the postal service in Loving where he then retired again in 1992. SF was never one for down time. SF enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, and most of all time with his family and friends. SF was very active in his church, Loving Baptist Church. He loved serving from teaching Sunday School & VBS to printing the weekly bulletin and leading music during worship service.

SF is preceded in death by his parents and his baby sister, Elva Sue Pippin.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years Peggy Dean Damron of Granbury; daughter, Monica Richardson & husband Rick of Granbury; Granddaughter Stephanie Sampler & husband Craig of Granbury, Grandsons Clayton Richardson and wife Jessica of Burleson, Matthew Buckler & wife Sara of Buda, Patrick Richardson & wife Kate of Benbrook; Great Grandchildren Nicholas Buckler, Channing Cheatham, Spencer Sampler and Knox Buckler; Sister Lucille Tipton & husband Neely of Cundiff, Brothers Joe Damron & wife Charlotte of Graham, David Damron & wife Barbara of Arlington along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
