Sept.25, 1937 – July 30, 2024
Shirley Osteen passed away Tuesday, July 30, in Jacksboro. She was 86 years old.
Shirley, lovingly known as MeMe, to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild, was born Sept. 25, 1937, to G. A. “Doc” Jackson and wife, Marjorie. Shirley married the love of her life, Frank Osteen on Jan. 19, 1957, at the home of her parents in Squaw Mountain. They were married for 45 years before Frank passed in August 2002.
Shirley and Frank were members of the First Baptist Church of Jacksboro. Shirley worked for many years in the daycare programs of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro and Vernon, and loved helping care for all of her “kids”. She was thrilled when they would come back to visit her after they were grown. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, watching old Westerns and always being with family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff of Faith Community Nursing & Rehabilitation and Solaris Hospice for their wonderful care. The letters, cards, and visits Shirley received during her final weeks were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her.
Waiting in heaven for her are Frank; son, Michael; grandson, Tyler McAnear; sister, Darlene Moore; and her parents.
Shirley is survived by her children, Melody McAnear and Kelly, Mitchel Osteen and Lana, Mark Osteen and Trena; nine grandchildren, Taylor McAnear, Alyson Browning, Grayson Osteen, Chloe Osteen, Travis Osteen, Lindsey Barr, Charla Zielinski, and Dustin Howard; and several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild that she loved and adored so dearly. She is survived by her aunt, Barbara Benfer; her sisters, Peggy Higgins and Pauline Dunham; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation was held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro. A funeral service followed at 10 a.m. A private family graveside will follow at Lynn Creek Cemetery.
