Lillian Opehlia Rumage Henderson

Lillian Ophelia Rumage Henderson, 90, passed away at her home Sunday, May 28, 2017 in Jacksboro, Texas. 

She was born January 13, 1927 to Claude and Lillian Thomas Rumage. She was the only girl and the fifth of six children. She idolized her brothers. 

She graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1944 and attended Durham’s Business College in Fort Worth. She married Ellis Henderson February 9, 1947. He preceded her in death January 14, 1981. She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksboro. 

Ophelia will be remembered for her strong work ethic, sense of humor, strength of character and her love of family and friends. She was the secretary for the Jacksboro Elementary School for years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five brothers, J.T., Warren, Jr., Bunk and Carlie.

Survivors include her children, Jerry Henderson and his wife, Jean; Carla Beth Horton and her husband, Dudley; grandchildren, Ellissa Horton Burr and her husband, Ryan; Derek Horton and his wife, Sara; Hannah Henderson and Ben Henderson. Great-grandchildren are Channing and Brooks Burr and Russell Horton; numerous nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her Aunt Sis; sisters-in-laws, Bernice Rumage; Sarah Rumage; and Julia Rumage. 

Pallbearers for the service will be her great-nephews Will Rumage, Blain Rumage, Carl Allen Ritchlin, Bryan Besselaar, Todd Besselaar, Miles Maddox and McCall Maddox.

Services were held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Jacksboro with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery. Please visit www.cokerfuneral.com for an online guestbook and a video tribute.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Concerned Citizens, Oakwood Cemetery Association, the Gladys Johnson Ritchie Public Library, or the First Baptist Church in Jacksboro.
