Aug. 23, 1935 – Sept. 1, 2024
John Wesley Ash, age 89, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, surrounded by his loved ones in Wichita Falls. He was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Kendrick, Oklahoma to John Lester Ash and Carmen Alice (Curry) Ash.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Bible Baptist Church in Jacksboro.
John married Dixie Lea Musser on Aug. 30, 1957, in Oklahoma City, together they made their home in Jermyn. John and Dixie recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. He was a City Superintendent for the City of Jacksboro for 31 years before retiring and working for the City Drug Store, where he delivered medication to the residents of Jacksboro for 19 years.
He was lovingly known as the “Jacksboro Flash.” He loved his job but often joked that he was“allergic to hard work”. John was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and the biggest OU fan (especially the girls’ softball team). Most of all, John was a loving husband, wonderful Daddy, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He adored every one of his grandkids and great-grandkids and loved spending time with his family. John will be truly missed by his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by grandson, Daniel Kirk; son-in-law, Johnny Pippin; bonus parents, George and Beulah Musser; his parents and 17 siblings.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years, Dixie Ash, of Jermyn; children, Russell Ash and wife Carla, Vicki Pippin, Vonda Nail and husband Luther, Tammy Ogle, and husband Jerry, “all within a stone’s throw if I could still throw a stone” in Jermyn; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
