Jimmy Don Gowan

Jimmy Don Gowan, 63, passed away on August 28, 2016. He was born December 30, 1952 in Jacksboro, Texas to H.R. and Ima Jean Edwards Phillips Gowan.  

Jimmy lived most of his life in Jacksboro. He loved the ranch and loved his many friends there. His great sense of humor, his love for the Texas Rangers, his wonderful laugh and his famous slow southern Texas drawl will be deeply missed.

Jimmy was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro and attended high school in Jacksboro. He also attended Texas Tech and North Texas State University in Denton. He was the owner of Water Excellence in Possum Kingdom with his partner and wife, Janey.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, step-father, Lester Phillips, sister, Mary Martha Turnipeed and wife, Janey Gowan.

Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Monna Whitney Gowan-Payne and her husband, Keath of Seabrooke, Texas and Neely Eugenia Gowan of Lufkin, Texas; brother-in-law, David Turnipeed of Floresville, Texas; cousin and care-giver, Kurt Schmitz of Flower Mound and cousin, Eric Schmitz of Turtle Creek; aunts, Vonnie Edwards, Maxine Edwards and Frances Edwards; nieces, Keely Aust and Erin Turnipeed, numerous cousins, one great-niece and two great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro, Texas.
