Sept. 1, 1930 – June 2, 2024
Ima Jean“Mickey”Woolsey, 93, passed away Sunday, June 2, in Wichita Falls. Born Sept. 1, 1930, in Jack County to Delbert and Ruth Christian, and married her loving husband, Weldon “Pete” Woolsey in Jacksboro in 1953.
Her funeral service was held Thursday, June 6 at Live Oak Baptist Church.
She resided at Rolling Meadows Retirement Center, where her nurses became like family, and she enjoyed making new friends.
Together, Pete and Mickey raised two children, Lanette and Brady. Mickey was primarily a homemaker, and she also held various clerical jobs around town. Mickey enjoyed china painting, sewing, and cooking, and she loved using them as a way to minister to her friends and family. Whether she was sewing dresses for her granddaughters, baking her grandson’s favorite cookies, or delivering a warm meal to a family, Mickey was happiest when she was helping others. Many Jacksboro folks have enjoyed at least one of Mickey’s famous cream pies or casseroles throughout the years; some even skipping the line at church luncheons to claim their piece of pie.
After they built their house in the country, Mickey shared the love of ranching and country living with her husband. She and Pete enjoyed many years of RV traveling where they made many long-lasting friendships along the way. Mickey was a charter member of Live Oak Baptist Church where she faithfully served for many years. She had a passion for visiting new residents in town and inviting them to Live Oak.
Mickey Woolsey is survived by her children, Karen Lanette Cheek and husband Garry, and Brady Woolsey and wife Julie; three grandchildren, Carmen Washam and husband Brian, Jacob Woolsey and wife Robin and Haley Woolsey and husband Tyler; as well as many nieces and nephews in her extended family.
