Elzie Gevern Lewis Jr. passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, in Dallas, at the age of 67. He was born Oct. 9, 1954, in Jacksboro, to Elzie Gevern Lewis Sr. and Lenora Ann (Dillard).

A visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Cundiff Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at First Baptist Church of Jacksboro.

Gevern graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1973. He was a proud member of the 1971 State Champion Jacksboro Tiger football team. He married Ronda Sims on July 20, 1973, in Jacksboro. Gevern was a member of the Cundiff Baptist Church, a founding member and former chief of the Cundiff Volunteer Fire Department, and a board member of the Cundiff Cemetery Association.Gevern is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Greg Lewis.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Ronda; children, Lindsey Peevey and husband Dee, Michael Lewis and wife Kalyn, and Nathaniel Lewis; grandchildren, Lynra Faith Peevey and Nathalie Lewis; siblings, Lynette Shelton and husband Ricky, Laurie Plaster, and sisterin- law, Jenilynn Lewis; several beloved grand puppies; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
