Aug. 5, 1936 – April 15, 2022

Ellen Aretha Lewis, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Friday, April 15, surrounded by her family. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls in the east sanctuary.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 5, 1936, to Eric Lawson Ellis and Ellen Lois Speed Ellis in Corsicana. She met the love of her life, Donald Glenn Lewis at a Sunday School party. They married on Dec. 3, 1954.

God soon added to their family with the births of Vicki Lynn and Pamela Sue.

She loved being a stay-at-home wife and mother, making sure everyone had three meals a day, clean, starched, and ironed clothes.

She stayed up many late nights making formals for piano recitals. She had a few jobs along the way but always got back to her true love... taking care of her family.

She and Don were the owner/operators of Lullaby Diaper Service and later Aretha served as the receptionist at Bonham Elementary School before she retired.

She was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a mentor and role-model to countless young couples as a Young Married Sunday School teacher. She also served as the church hostess, making sure everyone felt loved and welcome.

On any given day, you could find her delivering meals and baked items to grieving families or serving them in the fellowship hall at the church. Her favorite thing to do during her retired years was to spend time with her family, especially her grand kids.

She was committed to passing along her love for Jesus to them and she prayed for them and their salvation endlessly.
Aretha (MeeMaw), (Mawmo) was known to all as a Godly woman filled with grace, faith, loving kindness and gentle care. Her priorities were simple … God, family and church.

She always served her Lord, her family and her church selflessly, wanting no reward other than the knowledge that someone would hear about her Jesus. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don Lewis, brother, James Ellis and wife Rhonda of Humble, Texas, sister Sharon Partin of Nocona, daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Briscoe and husband Glenn Briscoe of Antelope, Texas and daughter and son-in-law Pam Sparks and husband Steve Sparks of Wichita Falls.

Her grandchildren include Lee Pesterfield and wife Courtney of Lubbock, Brice Pesterfield and wife Carman of Wichita Falls, Erica Boutwell and husband Stephen of Franklin Tennessee, Justin Sparks and wife Alexis of Flower Mound and Skyler Bavousett and husband James of Burkburnett.

Great-grand children include Lydia and Clara Pesterfield, Bishop, Bennett and Brynner Boutwell, Lexi, Presley, Paylin and Piper Pesterfield, Amelia, Sienna, Jack and Nora Sparks and Emersyn and Allisyn Bavousett.

The family request that memorials be made to Wichita Falls Faith Mission.
