Bridgeport~ Edward Swan, 82, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020 in Decatur.

Funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Jacksboro. Preacher Melvin Blalock and Leo Short will officiate.

Pallbearers include grandsons, Cody Gilley, Roper Gilley, Brady Short, Michael Swan, Ethan Swan, and bonus grandson, William Kaker.

Edward was born on August 24, 1937 to Ed and Vonnie (Tilghman) Swan in Jack County. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carolyn McAnear on November 8, 1959 in Jacksboro. Edward graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the United

States Navy and proudly served his country from 1956-1959.

He was a faithful member of Bankhead Church of Christ in Weatherford. He was a very well-known auto mechanic of old classic cars up to 1982 models. He worked for Halliburton Oil in Jacksboro and Louisiana, Southwest Chevrolet in Ft. Worth, and in 1963 he went to work for General Motors in Arlington until he retired in 1993. He loved to talk to anyone and everyone, and tell stories of bygone days. Edward was a beloved husband, dad, and “Pappy”. He dearly loved family gatherings and being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his eyes, when you married into our family, you were his children too. Pappy knew how to make everyone feel special and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ed & Vonnie Swan; his sisters, Edyth Jackson and Mary Jo Howard; his grandson, Matthew Swan; and his in-laws, Loyd and Maricelle McAnear.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 60 years, Carolyn Swan of Bridgeport; his daughters, Toni Short and husband Leo of Mansfield; and Teri Gilley and husband Noel of Paradise; his son, Jason Swan of Paradise; 5 grandsons, Cody Gilley and wife Brandi of Belton, Roper Gilley and wife Elizabeth of Bridgeport, Brady Short and wife Rachel of Burleson, Michael Swan and Ethan Swan of Paradise; 5 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Autumn and Luke Short, and Carter and Paige Gilley; his sisters, Darcus Myers of Denton, Tommie Dean McDonald of Jacksboro, and his baby sister, Patsy Harding of Ft.  orth; and his oldest nephew, who was like a little brother, Billy Ed Richardson of Jacksboro, numerous family members, church family and a host of good friends.
