Dr. Ross O'Neal Roberts

Dr. Ross O’Neal Roberts, 86, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017. 

Ross was born August 20, 1930 in Bryson, Texas to Nora Slater Roberts and Jesse Milton Roberts. He married Rita Colleen Holmes on his birthday in 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Pete Milton Roberts.

Ross highly valued education. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of North Texas after receiving undergraduate degrees from Abilene Christian University and Midwestern State University. Ross served his country for 4 years as an active duty Air Force member, followed by 40 years of distinguished federal service as the senior training advisor to the 396th Technical Training Group. He loved the Air Force.

Dr. Roberts was an elder and charter member of the Edgemere Church of Christ. He was also a founder, charter member of the Wichita Christian School Board of Directors, and past officer. He was organizer, charter member, and past president of Wichita Falls Rotary North. Ross was proud of organizing the American Flag Display project because of his patriotism. He was active in Partners in Education and loved working with Harrell School on behalf of Rotary.

Ross is survived by his wife, Colleen of 61 years and his three children: Kelly Roberts; Risa Hillard and husband Keith; and Kent Roberts and wife Lori. He is also survived by seven grandchildren he adored: Jacy DeArmond and husband Cody; Libbie Brown and husband Eric; Dylan and Madison Hillard; Molly, Ben, and Katy Roberts; one very special great-granddaughter Arden DeArmond; and nephews Bran and Brec Roberts, niece Jeanne Roberts and special friend Diana Vowell.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Edgemere Church of Christ with Joe Williams and Ken Holsberry officiating. A private burial followed at Rosemont Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Edgemere Church of Christ Mission Fund or Hospice of Wichita Falls. Ross deeply loved his family, his friends, and his church who take great comfort in knowing he is now in the arms of his Heavenly Father until they are united together again.
