Dennis “Pete” Peterson, 74, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away on January 13, 2021 in Wichita Falls.

Graveside services were held 2 p.m. on Monday Jan. 18 in Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro. Open viewing was all day Sunday Jan. 17 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.

Pete was born Jan. 25, 1946 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to William and Alma (Fowler) Peterson. He married Sue Elenburg Bookout on March 4, 1983 in Wichita Falls. He attended Dana College then served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a computer programmer for many years, then attended Vernon College and became an RN serving in Jacksboro and the surrounding areas. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, member in a men’s bible study, member of the NRA, was a Mason in Jacksboro, former member of the Wranglers Square Dance Club, former member of the Rolling Plains Chapter Texas Master Naturalist. He was an avid bow hunter and loved the country life.

Pete and Sue loved traveling the United States with close friends Jim and JoAnn Brennan and cousins Jim and Jan Brantly and Frank and Lou Ann Black. Pete and Sue also served others including a medical missionary trip to Honduras. He was always a joy be around, and when asked how he was doing often replied, “peachy keen.”

Survivors include, wife, Sue Peterson; children, Shawn Peterson and wife Robin Gohlke, Tracy Peterson and wife Laura, Tim Bookout and wife Kim, Lori Bookout Apple and husband Danny; grandchildren, Arlo, Bodie, Gunner, Shelby and husband Ross, Morgan, Barrett, Erin, Claire, Holly; great grandchild Harrison; sister Linda Hack; brother-in-law, Dave Elenburg and wife Phyllis, brother-in-law, Kent Elenburg and wife Tonya, sister-in-law, Mitzi Campsey and husband Rick; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pete and Sue completed their blended family in 1987 with birth of their son Brantly Peterson, who preceded them in death in 2004. Also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Peterson; sister, Pat Peterson.
