Delmar Ray Day passed away Sunday, April 17, in Jacksboro. He was 82 years old. He was born Dec. 7, 1939 in Parker County, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro, with a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 22. Graveside services will immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro.

Delmar grew up in Granbury, where he graduated in 1957. He received a bachelor’s degree from McMurray College in Abilene in 1962. While attending McMurray, he played tennis and was part of the cheerleading squad. He received his Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University in 1974.

Mr. Day was a teacher, school counselor, coach and administrator over his 39 years in education. He loved working with students and seeing their achievements. He began his teaching career at Granbury High School teaching history and government.

He later taught history and coached football and baseball at Bryson High School. He then became principal at Bryson Elementary School before serving as principal at Jacksboro High School from 1991-1997.

He spent the remainder of his education career as assistant superintendent at Mineral Wells High School before retiring in 2001.

Delmar never met a stranger and loved talking to people everywhere he went.

He was a life-long sports fan and especially loved the game of golf. He played every chance he got for many years. He enjoyed the time he shared with friends on the course.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksboro.

Delmar is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bernice Day. He is survived by his sons, Jack and wife JoAnn, Jon and wife Janet, Jeff and wife Stefani; his daughter, Danya; granddaughter, Jessica and husband Taylor Stroud; great-grandchildren, Layla and Landyn; and sister, Teresa Ables.
