Vote postponed on tax abatement

Jack County Commissioners were scheduled to vote Monday on the application from Lasso Wind, LLC, for the designation of a certain area of the county as a reinvestment zone for tax abatement.

After a 90-minute public hearing on the item at the Jack County Courthouse, which has divided the county for several months, a commissioner leaving forced a delay on the vote.

A packed room watched Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Oliver give a brief statement and then leave the proceedings after the public hearing.

Teens help pick up trash around lake

Many people get after today’s younger generation, saying they’re lazy and unmotivated. Those folks have never met Braxton and Bryson Crunk.

The Jacksboro High School students were taking part in their favorite activity, fishing out at Lake Jacksboro Monday after the Independence Day celebration. The boys, who are out there six or seven days a week, according to their father, Michael Crunk, had been fishing for about 20-30 minutes when they got to talking with Jacksboro Police Department Officer Chris Simmons who was out picking up the trash.

Spiller reflects on first term in office

A man truly loves his work when he’s excited about doing more of it.

Coming off his first term as District 68 Texas Representative, David Spiller admits he’s excited to head back later this week for the first of what is expected to be two special sessions, which begin July 8.

The first session for which an agenda had not come out from the Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office as of yet, is expected to include election integrity, bail reform and giving magistrates more power in how repeat offenders can be handled, and border security.

Jack County Commissioners will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12 to consider the application of Lasso Wind, LLC, for the designation of a certain area of the county as a reinvestment zone for tax abatement.

Ever since the company submitted its application, commissioners have been met by a vocal opposition group.

North Texas Heritage Association (NTHA) members have been urging Jack County officials to not allow a wind farm to set up shop in the north part of the county, claiming they are trying to preserve their land.

TNT Fest explodes with fun

Thousands came out for the annual TNT Fest last Saturday in the area around Lake Jacksboro.

All sorts of fun things were set up for people of all ages to do, as Stevie Moore, 11 of Granbury found out.

Moore, in a break from playing in the baseball tournament at the fields, took a break by honing his pitching skills at the dunk tank sponsored by Faith Community Hospital.

Principal, AD give reports to BISD board

BRYSON – Although a young bunch, Cowboy coaches here are happy with the progress the athletes are making during summer workouts.
Athletic Director Slade Egan told board members that summer workouts are going well with the athletes working hard. About 20 kids came out Friday.

“They’re griping, but growing,” Egan commented.

Egan said the coaches are pushing the athletes one day a week, making them do a 400-meter run after workouts.

“We’re trying to put them in an uncomfortable situation every day,” Egan said.

TxDMV warns of suspicious emails and text messages

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles sent out an alert for Texans to watch for suspicious email and text messages claiming to be from their organization. The messages are sent by cyber criminals attempting to gain access to private information or deliver harmful files to a computer.

TxDMV is urging state residents not to click any links provided in emails and text messages that appear suspicious. The department stated it will never reach out directly via email or text communication and request personal information.
