The Tuesday, Nov. 4 election is quickly approaching and Jack County residents will need to make sure that they are registered to vote in order to head to the polls. The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 6.
Eligible voters can fill out a registration form online or in person, and return it to the Elections Office located at 100 N Main, Suite 301 inside the Jack County Courthouse in Jacksboro. Applications must be signed and returned either in person or by mail by the deadline to be registered to vote in the November election.
In August, Perrin-Whitt CISD school board trustees called for a bond election, asking voters to return to the polls in November to decide on a $28,220,000 school bond for facility renovations and new construction across the district.
The $28,217,344 total investment included $8,500,000 for elementary school renovations, $10,368,000 for a new cafeteria with a stage and storm shelter, $1,231,200 for athletic restrooms and concessions renovations, $342,144 to resod the football field, and $7,776,000 for a new Ag/CTE building.
A $25,450,500 bond was defeated in May by 10 votes, 142-132. The district facilities committee regrouped over the summer to recommend a new bond package, working with consultants from WRA Architects to also provide a plan to incorporate future projects like renovations and new construction 10 and 20 years out from the initial bond. In 2036 the district could consider a bond for secondary elementary renovations, and in 2046 the board could consider a bond to construct a new elementary school building.
If approved by voters in November, the bond would have a tax impact of 31 cents with a total interest and sinking tax rate of 46 cents for PWCISD. Voters within the school district can visit perrinwhittcisdbond.com to learn more about the bond.
Early voting opens Monday, Oct. 20 and closes Friday, Oct. 31.
Early voting will take place inside the Jack County Courthouse in room number 104. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 20-24 and Oct. 27-29, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 30-31.
A convenient location will also be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 23-24 at the PWCISD Administration Building, located at 216 North Benson Street in Perrin.
The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Friday, Oct. 24.
All Jack County voters will also have the final say in 17 proposed constitutional amendments, including $51 billion in property tax cuts for homeowners and businesses. Other proposed amendments would prevent the state from imposing additional taxes on personal or business capital gains, securities transactions and those working in securities and inheritances, while still more would limit when a person can be released on bail, codify parental rights and clarify citizen requirements for Texas voters.
Other proposals would establish an endowment fund for Texas State Technical College, and fund water infrastructure and dementia treatment and prevention research in Texas.
Visit votetexas.gov for voter registration information and a complete list of constitutional amendments.
