As early voting wraps up Friday ahead of the Tuesday, March 3 primary election, Jack County residents will select a new district judge and precinct 2 residents will select a new county commissioner to appear on the ballot for the November general election.
The Republican primary candidates drew no opposition from the Democratic Party and if any filing candidate received the majority of votes in their respective primary races, they would claim the party nomination and the seat in November.
On the ballot for 271st Judicial District Judge were Paul Belew and Andrew Lloyd. Judge Brock Smith was appointed to the seat by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2017 and was elected in 2018.
Jack County precinct 2 saw three candidates file for the seat of commissioner. Amy Salazar was appointed to the seat in 2025 following the death of her husband Kenny Salazar, and chose not to run for election. On the ballot to fill the seat are candidates Ronald Fitzgerald, Bob Ricks and Mandy Estes Horn.
Uncontested local Republican primary races included Jack County Judge, district clerk, county clerk, county treasurer, justice of the peace and party chair. No local Democratic Party candidates filed for the primary except for party chair, which was uncontested.
