Toys for Tots coming

For the seventh straight year, VFW Post 8914 is doing Toys 4 Tots for local residents to assure everyone has a nice Christmas.

To help facilitate that, the post will be hosting a 4-man Scramble Golf Tournament Saturday, Dec. 3 at Jacksboro Golf Club. Registration/ sign in begins at 10 with tee off scheduled for noon. Teams of four must sign up as they will not be put together, according to Daniel Stubblefield with the post.

Cost is $100 per foursome with each player also bringing an unwrapped toys or $20 for a donation. Prizes will be given for closest to the pin and longest drive of the day. Raffles will also be going on throughout the day.

Those wishing to help out or volunteer with the tournament or the program can attend meetings every Tuesday in November at 6:30 p.m. at the post, 220 Oakwood Blvd. in Jacksboro, Stubblefield noted. Volunteers will be asked to check collection boxes for donations and other events. The distribution for the toys is Saturday, Dec. 17. People wishing to get on the list for a potential toy are asked to go on Facebook and search jack county toys for tots. Click on family toys request form and submit the requested information. For those that would rather have a paper form, they are available at the VFW and at the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette office.

The VFW is also having a collection event/ fundraiser Nov. 19 from 8-10 p.m. at the VFW Post which is open to the public. The band Hired Guns will be performing with a $10 cover.

Also coming up this week is the VFW Post’s annual Veteran Day BBQ luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon is open to the public for a $10 charge, which consists of brisket, ribs, and all the trimmings.

Veterans can have the meal at no charge.
