Roof work continues at JISD schools

Wed, 07/13/2022 - 5:00 am

Roof work at both Jacksboro Elementary and Jacksboro High School is ongoing and will be ready for the first day of school.

Superintendent Brad Burnett said work, which began at the end of the school, is going well. There was a slight setback due to the rain late last month, Burnett said, but things are back on schedule.

Work was expected to finish at the high school main campus last week before moving to the field house and then the agriculture building at the school.

Burnett and a committee of staff and board members met with Harper Perkins Architects last week to go over proposals for the Construction Manager At Risk position, which will oversee the replacement of both gyms.

“It’s going to be a fairly slow process on that,” Burnett said. “Once we get a CMAR hired, they’ll work with Harper Perkins on getting documents drawn up and ready for bid. We’re hoping to get construction beginning after the first of the year.”

Burnett said that could be later as the lead time for steel in construction world right now is around six months. He said the major portion of gym construction will not begin until next summer for safety’s sake.

“We may get some things done during Spring Break or the Christmas holidays depending on what we have available,” Burnett said. “We don’t want to do a lot of work while there are people in the building because of safety.”

Moving to Tiger Stadium, work on the press box is on schedule to be complete for the first home game Sept. 2. There will be some movement of items in the press box this Fall with electronics being combined into one room for both the video board and the radio broadcasters being moved into the former video booth.

The district is ordering a new “V” for the outside of the press box this week. It will be made by the same company, Intaglio Composites of Arlington, that did the first V, Burnett explained.

Lights for the stadium are scheduled to be installed the first week of August. Scoreboard will be installed later in the month. One 4’ by 8’ spot remains for advertisers wanting to get on the board. Businesses who wish to take the last spot on the board of for more information can call the district administration office at 567-7203.

Fencing around the stadium is being installed this week. Once that is complete, work on getting the elementary playground fenced in will begin.
