Mitchell resigns mayoral position

Thu, 12/30/2021 - 9:07 am

After nine years in his mayoral position and on Jacksboro City Council, Mayor Joe Mitchell announced his resignation last week.

The city accepted his resignation and council members appointed Craig Fenter as Mayor. Fenter will serve in the position until the election in May.

“While this new season has been an amazing journey, it comes with many changes and humbling decisions. Due to these factors, I am no longer a resident of the city of Jacksboro. This requires me to resign as your Mayor, after nine years on the council,” Mitchell said in a Dec. 20 Facebook post. “It’s been an honor and privilege to serve this great community.”

Mitchell said leaving the city is definitely bittersweet, but said he knows God has called him to make this change. Mitchell also said he is excited about the future.
