Lions Club hosts successful Fish Fry

Wed, 06/15/2022 - 5:00 am

In the minds of many, there’s nothing better than a good plate of fresh, hot catfish.

That was the case June 9 as the Jacksboro Lions Club hosted its annual Fish Fry. The east side of the Jack County Courthouse resembled a to go restaurant with cookers, preparers and baggers getting the food out to hungry customers. Customers were allowed to eat-in among the shade trees nearby or take it to go which many decided to do. Plates consisted of beans, cole slaw, fish, hush puppies, biscuit and the normal accompaniments.

Many customers commented on how good the fish was under the watchful eye of Bill Pierce and his crew. Pierce has been cooking fish for the Lions Club for many years.

Lions Club members and their families got the fish and trimmings out to the customers. The fish fry is an “all hands on deck” event for the club as it’s the club’s largest fundraiser of the year. Many Lions helped out with the movement of supplies, pouring of tea, filling of bags etc.

Monies raised from the event go to benefit Lions causes such as vision, new glasses for those who need them and school supplies for local youth.

Preliminary numbers were down from a year ago, but sales were brisk in the early going of the 90-minute event Thursday.
