Wed, 10/12/2022 - 11:59 am

Lindsey State Jail is reporting the successful completion of the third part of its Fit for Life campaign to help its inmates improve their overall health and wellness.

The focus on mental health in July, August, and September provided the opportunity to express emotions in a healthy way. Coloring, drawing and other artwork was submitted. Similar programs, classes, and training occurred at all Management and Training Corporation facilities.

“You cannot have good physical health without addressing mental health,” Warden Brian Collins said. “This quarter jail staff looked at simple ways to help inmates increase their understanding of mental health. The focus was on developing lasting daily mental health habits.”

The 2022 campaign has one area of focus per quarter: 1st Quarter – Healthy Eating 2nd Quarter – Fitness 3rd Quarter – Mental Health 4th Quarter – Environmental Health For the third quarter, the jail was able to provide a positive outlet to assist with stress and anxiety while improving brain function and promoting relaxation.

Warden Collins adds, “We saw excellent results from recent mental health events and programs at our facility. It was encouraging to see the results of our concentration on improving mental health and wellness.”
