Wed, 06/29/2022 - 5:00 am

PERRIN – Perrin-Whitt CISD Trustee Chad Lambert, a longtime board member, submitted his resignation to the board during the regular meeting Tuesday, June 21.

In his resignation letter, Lambert said it was a pleasure to serve on the board and he wished the board and the district the best. After looking for nominations for someone to fill the position, it was decided to table the item until next month to give board members a chance to get out in the community.

In other news:

• Student lunches will increase from $2.75 to $3.20 for the upcoming school year. Students had not paid for lunches or breakfasts for the last two years.

Superintendent Cliff Gilmore said there will be no increase in adult lunch prices for the time being but said that could change. Letting families know of the price increase early will allow for a chance to prepare, Gilmore said.

• Gilmore said the district received its first check from the Texas Association of School Boards of $130,000 for roof damage. The rest of the $290,000 will be paid when the roofing job is complete, which is expected to start soon.

Gilmore said the summer is one of the busier time of the year with the classrooms getting painted, hallways getting an extra good cleaning. Principal Loren Sell said he is working on getting the master schedule completed. The secondary school (grades 7-12) is fully staffed for the upcoming school year.

• The board also approved entering into agreements with Region 9 for such things as financial and legal support, professional development, bus driver training, grant writing, human resources and others. The cost will be $73,000 for the 2022-23 school year.

Gilmore said the district had contracted with Region 9 for those items for many years, saving the district money.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19.
