A Construction Manager At Risk has been chosen to oversee construction of both the Jacksboro Elementary School and Jacksboro High School gyms.

M&F Littiken of Wichita Falls rose to the top of three companies that submitted proposals for the job. Jacksboro ISD Superintendent Brad Burnett said a committee of JISD administration and board members met July 6 with Harper Perkins Architects to go over the three proposals.

Littiken rose to the top, being the contractor of the original gyms in 2007 and 2009 and having a good working relationship with the Wichita Falls based architects were points in their favor.

Burnett said he is expecting and has been told of an 18-24 month wait time for completion of both gyms with engineering and materials major parts of the slow down. He said major construction off the high school gym should begin sometime next summer as engineering work to add on to the existing gym will take time.

Having a lack of students and staff in the building during construction is paramount. If materials are available, work may start as early as Spring Break, Burnett said.

Work could also start early at the elementary gym but a major concern of pick up and drop off areas will need to be addressed first, Burnett emphasized.

In other news, the final space on the new video scoreboard was sold recently, meaning the board itself is full of businesses for the upcoming season. The first home game is Sept. 2 vs. Boyd.

The board also had its reorganization with Martha Salmon as President and Lisa Perry as Secretary. Kelly Mower moved up to Vice President as well.

Principals gave their monthly reports and were pleased to announce they are fully staffed for the upcoming school year, with the first day of school set for Aug. 17.

“We’re about 95-96% loaded and ready to go for the upcoming school year,” Jacksboro Elementary Principal Michael Qualls said.
