Jack County Judge new chair of Nortex

Judge Keith Umphress of Jack County has been elected as the Chair of Nortex Regional Planning Commission for the next year.

The Executive Committee of NRPC at its regular monthly Board meeting in September elected Judge Umphress to serve in this capacity for the Commission.

Other officer appointments for upcoming year include Mr. Billy Don Clark of Electra Hospital District as Vice-Chair, Judge Randy Jackson of Archer County as Secretary and Judge Rusty Stafford of Baylor County as Past Chair.

NRPC is a voluntary association of the local governments within an eleven county region in North Texas. Judge Umphress has been an active member of Nortex Regional Planning Commission representing Jack County in the past.

NRPC administers programs for community development, services for the elderly, 9-1-1 planning, solid waste planning, law enforcement planning, homeland security, homeless prevention, economic development, etc. The commission controls approximately $23 million in federal and state programs on an annual basis within this region.

NRPC is a region-wide association of local governments which serves an area of 9,461 square miles consisting of approximately 224,336 people. The mission of the organization is to serve its members as the instrument of local government cooperation and coordination for the purpose of improving the heath, safety and general welfare of the citizens it represents. Through NRPC, local governments consider issues and cooperate on problems.

“The general purpose of Nortex Regional Planning Commission (NRPC) is to plan for the unified, far-reaching development of the North Texas region, eliminate duplication of services, and promote economy and efficiency through coordination,” NRPC states on its website.

The membership for NRPC comprises 101 local governments which includes: 11 county governments, 35 school districts, 33 cities and 22 special districts as well as all major general purpose local governments in the region.
