In a brief Faith Community Hospital board meeting Monday, Nov. 28, CEO Frank Beaman announced the hospital will be hiring a general surgeon later this month.
Philip Gafford will be the first full-time general surgeon the facility has had, Beaman said. He was expected to be here in early December.
Gafford’s wife is an emergency room nurse and together they have three children, ages 8-15.
Beaman said he has been in Ohio, but wanted to get back to Texas after spending some time as a robotic surgeon in Midland.
“This will give us the ability to do more than what we’re doing,” Beaman said. “He is looking forward to building his practice here. He will practice not only here but also go into the outlying clinics as well.”
The board also approved giving tax abatements for victims who were affected by the March tornado. The city, county and Jacksboro ISD had already approved doing so. Under the program, any improvements made on a home affected with be not on the tax rolls 100% the first year, 75% the second year and 50% the third year.
The abatements will begin in 2024. The next meeting will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 21 on the FCH board room.
