Bryson FFA wins awards at state

Members of the Bryson FFA received many different awards at the 94th annual Texas FFA State Convention, held July 11-15, in Fort Worth.

Traci Berend and Windsor Godfrey, of the Bryson FFA Chapter, were awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree The Lone Star FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the Texas FFA.

The Lone Star FFA Degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth-grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above.

Berend and Godfrey were two of more than 2,200 FFA members to receive this esteemed degree.

Jacie Pennington was awarded for her efforts on the media staff team where she wrote articles and conducted various podcasts on Texas FFA’s behalf. Check out her articles on the Bryson FFA or Texas FFA Facebook pages.

Dalton Birdwell was recognized as the Area IV FFA Association’s winner of the Greenhand Star in Production Degree for his outstanding achievement in his entrepreneurial production agriculture SAE. Birdwell’s outstanding achievement comes from his breeding and market animal projects.

Other members of the Bryson FFA donated to the state-wide “Stock the Backpack Community Service Initiative”. Bryson students filled 12 backpacks with school supplies for kids in need.

Windsor Godfrey was announced as the 2022-2023 Texas FFA State President at the last session on Friday. She will defer college for a year traveling across the state speaking at 3 high schools a day about what the FFA organization and agriculture are all about!

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 156,000. FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real world experiences through local, state and national competitions.
