Jacksboro Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Casey Hubble is trying to establish a culture among his high school and middle school athletes.
He explained what that was during the JISD school board meeting Aug. 8. The four-point culture consists of discipline, accountability, toughness and effort. Hubble said everyone being the best they can be, being accountable for their actions, putting themselves in a situation of “purposeful discomfort” and giving the very best is what all athletes and coaches will be expected to do.
Hubble said a great staff has been put together to guide the athletes. They love kids first, which Hubble explained is so important. A new weight room has been brought in, using the same brands of equipment that was used at Guyer and Breckenridge.
“We have the best weight room in the area,” Hubble said.
The old equipment was not thrown out. Two other weight rooms were created, one for the girls and one at the middle school so that when the middle school athletes get to the high school, they’ll know how to lift.
Hubble discussed the summer strength and conditioning program, which consisted of 20 workouts over a six week period. Hubble said the numbers out for Fall sports have been solid with 76 players playing football, 36 girls playing volleyball and another 30 running cross country.
Two first year programs are having good numbers. a Junior Tiger and Tigerette programs for kids up to sixth grade will give the young people someone to look up in the form of a varsity athlete or cheerleader.
There has been a lot of interest in the Quarterback Club where Hubble speaks on Friday morning and will go over game film from the week before and give a scouting report on the coming week’s opponent.
In related items, a construction update was given on Tiger Stadium and the prognosis is good. The light poles have been installed at the stadium but they still need to be aimed properly at the field.. The LED lights will be a stark improvement from the old lights. Unfortunately, there is one drawback in Hubble’s mind.
“You won’t be able to see the lights from all over town,” Hubble said with a smile. ” All the light power will be focused on the field so it will be very bright there.”
The Tigers will scrimmage Iowa Park Thursday. Subvarsity at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m.
