The City of Jacksboro approved a special use permit for a tobacco and vape shop, to be located at 511 West Belknap Street, following a public hearing Monday, July 14.

City ordinance required tobacco and vape shops to be located in a thoroughfare commercial zone, but that property was located in a light commercial district, triggering a need for the request. The city’s planning and zoning commission recommended the move, saying it was a good location for the business.

The city sent out 13 letters to surrounding neighbors and only one was returned, with no opinion on the request. P&Z members and the city council agreed its location was far enough away from the downtown square and the schools to avoid any issues with children entering the store.

Karim Hiyari owned a tobacco and vape shop in Jacksboro in 2013, but later closed the location when he started spending more time at his store in Springtown. Now he has one store in Wichita Falls and hopes to fill the market gap in Jacksboro.

Hiyari said the business has changed since he had his store in 2013, with a growing customer base and wider selection of products.
