Updated results were released for the May local election where candidates Travis Jonas, Joe Logan and Shelley Sewell came out on top in their respective races for Jacksboro ISD School Board of Trustees and Jacksboro City Council.

Cumulative results were released Tuesday, May 12 following the Saturday, May 2 local election.

Jonas, incumbent for JISD’s Board of Trustees, held on to a strong lead over challenger for Place 1 Tony Horn to retain his seat.
Incumbent Leann Johnson ran unopposed for Place 2 to retain her seat as well.

Unofficial results released on election night revealed two tight races for Jacksboro City Council where mail-in votes not yet counted had the power to change the outcome of those elections.

In the contested race for Jacksboro City Council Place 3, challengers Brian Isbell and Logan faced off at the polls, with Logan getting the edge over Isbell by just 10 votes. 

Sewell entered a contested race against Victor Sanchez, both vying for Place 2 on the city council. Sewell narrowly defeated Sanchez by a count of 151 votes to 140.

In uncontested races for city council, incumbent Libby Gonzales retained her Place 1 seat, and incumbent Tyler Harmonson retained his Place 5 seat.

Election counts are not final until canvassed by their entities.

JISD canvassed their election in a special-called meeting Monday, May 11, while Jacksboro City Council will hold a special-called meeting Monday, May 18 to canvass the election and swear in new council members.

Gonzales and Harmonson reaffirmed their oaths of office at May’s regular city council meeting.

The city of Bryson canceled its order of election after incumbents JR Stearns (Place 1), Jesse Laine (Place 3) and Heather Neer (Place 5) faced no opposition. The three were sworn into office during the May 11 city council meeting.

A total of 400 of 3,824 registered voters, or 10.46%, voted in the May local election.
