The Jacksboro Lions Club is selling tickets now for the annual fish fry fundraiser in June.

The fish fry takes place from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4 on the east side of the Jack County Courthouse in Jacksboro.

Lions Club Project Chairman Tim Cassle said the fish fry is the club’s biggest fundraising event of the year, collecting donations to support projects throughout the community.

“It helps us considerably—it’s a major part of our program,” Cassle said. “We turn around and use these funds for benevolent purposes.”

The Lions Club uses proceeds from the fundraiser to purchase school supplies for Jacksboro ISD students in need, to provide gift cards to JISD Good Citizens each nine weeks and to provide a countywide vision screening clinic.

The club also uses proceeds to purchase food for the local food pantry, award scholarships to JHS seniors and to help anyone in need with eye exams and eye glasses, as well as to contribute to local, state and international non-profit organizations.

Tickets are available to purchase from any Jacksboro Lions Club member for $15 each. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the event.

Tables and chairs will be provided to those who would like to eat at the event, or orders can be made to go for curbside pick-up.
Included with each ticket is a plate of fish with a side of beans, cole slaw, hushpuppies and fresh biscuits with honey. Condiments and a beverage are also included.

Cassle said the club looks at the fundraiser as a community event, inviting people to come together to share a meal and socialize.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cassle said the Lions Club could easily serve between 350 and 400 plates at one event, but those numbers averaged between 250 and 350 now.

Cassle said effects from the shutdown impacted many service organizations like the Lions Club, but with the support of the community they were able to pivot and continue moving forward.

“We appreciate the support of the community. They’ve always been good to us—supporting our programs,” Cassle said. “We hope this will be a good event.”
