City of Bryson issued a notice as required by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Monday, Oct. 20 notifying all city water customers to boil their water before consumption.
Due to a possible malfunction at the water well screen, customers should boil water for use before drinking, cooking, washing hands or the face, brushing teeth, etc., with children, seniors and people with a weakened immune system particularly at risk.
Water for drinking, cooking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption in order to destroy harmful bacteria and other microbes. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil, then boiled for two minutes.
Alternatively, bottled water can be used instead of boiling. Bryson ISD said on its social media page it would be providing bottled water for its staff and students for the duration of the order.
Bryson city officials said 100% of the city’s water supply was currently coming from Fort Belknap Water Supply Corporation in Graham, and drawing from the city’s well had stopped. Maintenance crews were flushing water lines and water quality would be retested Tuesday morning.
The city will update water customers when the water is safe for consumption and the notice is rescinded.
For questions or concerns call City Hall at 940-392-2241 or Public Works Director Cory Allen at 940-229-4788.
**Update: This notice was rescinded Wednesday, Oct. 22.
