It’s time for the Jack County Fair fundraiser supporting the youth of Jack County.

The Jack County Fair Association is once again hosting its annual truck drawing. For $125, participants can buy one of 300 chances to win a new 2016 Chevrolet pickup. The price includes a barbecue dinner for two at the 2016 Showdown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Twin Lakes Activity Center. A dance follows at 8 p.m.

There is a draw-down for the truck.

All but two of the tickets are sold before the event. The night of the draw-down, those in attendance may purchase $10 chances to be entered in a drawing to receive the 299th ticket.

Once there are nine chances left in the hopper, the winner of the 299th ticket is drawn and that person’s name is thrown in the hopper. When only four tickets are left to choose the winner, the 300th ticket is auctioned.

The tickets are drawn until the final, winning truck ticket remains.

The 2016 Chevrolet half-ton pickup is valued at $25,000 and the winner can “cash” it in at the dealership according to Fair Association Board Member Robert Lee Martin.

The truck is white, but Martin said the winner can get any color they like or sell the truck back to James Wood Motors for cash. All tickets also qualify the holder for a $250 discount on a new vehicle purchase from James Wood Motors.

Each ticket is also eligible for four additional prizes with a combined value of $2,000 including a TV, Yeti cooler, gun and iPad. Ticket holders must be present to win the additional prizes but not the pickup. There will also be silent and live auctions at the Showdown.

All money raised benefits the Jack County Fair Association Building Fund.

County Extension Agent Alinda Cox said the fair barn is used all year long.

“Relay for Life takes place there, 4-H meetings, events, camps and jackpots take place throughout the year,” Cox said. “Various community groups such as TNT Fest, classes and organizations use it to build homecoming floats. Occasionally there are family reunions out there.

“The Jack County Fair Barn is utilized by community members of all ages and interests.”

The facility is owned and maintained by the Jack County Fair Association and was built with the help of community support and some grant funding.

The Showdown fundraiser helps keep the building maintained and has helped fund expansion.

Tickets may be purchased from any Jack County Fair Association board member, the Jack County AgriLife Extension office in the courthouse, any of the three banks in Jacksboro, Ciera Bank in Bryson, Perrin Feed and Hardware or H-Brand Feed Store.
