Tigers see promise in Iowa Park

Tue, 08/24/2021 - 6:25 pm

IOWA PARK – Jacksboro’s varsity football team showed promise here in its final scrimmage of the year Thursday evening.

While the Class 4A Hawks outscored the Tigers 3-0 in touchdowns, JHS Coach and Athletic Director Brannon Rodgers said there were plenty of positives to be found in the hour-long scrimmage.

“We’re fine,” Rodgers said after the scrimmage which consisted of 20 offensive, 20 defensive plays and a live quarter. “We’re starting seven sophomores on defense, so there will be growing pains, but I was impressed with the way we came along since the last scrimmage.”

The Tigers started off on offensive with its first teamers. Junior Baylor Laake’s run and a short pass from Lando Belcher to Ryder Jackson had the team fired up but the Purple was hurt by a penalty on. Laake later had a first down run but the 10 plays ended without the squad crossing midfield.
