Tigerettes lose District 7-3A opener to Lady Bucks

Tue, 09/14/2021 - 6:23 pm

BRECKENRIDGE – A solid start by Jacksboro was more than countered by Breckenridge’s volleyball team Friday afternoon as the Lady Bucks posted a 15-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 win here.

The young Tigerettes, who had a very rough non-district campaign, looked to turn it around quickly. A four-point Brailyn Tullous string, with help from a pair of Rylee Mathis kills, put the visitors up 7-2 in the opener and forced a Breckenridge timeout. Zena Ragle rolled off three straight to get within 8-9.

Game one would remain close with singles by Avery Bennett and Kylie Tullous keeping the Tigerettes on top before a three-point Teagan Reynolds swing forced another Breck timeout down 10-17. Lilly Woodward came out of the timeout and brought the hostesses within four but it would be as close as the Lady Bucks would get.

Brailyn Tullous served up five straight points with some help from a Rachael Chalmers block and a Mathis kill to put Jacksboro up 23-13. Tigerette senior Lilli Gonzales would put home the final point for the game one win.

Breckenridge took a 7-4 lead in game two on single points from Woodward, Jimena Palacios, and Ragle. Neither team could get any kind of serving run going until a Woodward kill broke serve at 13-9 and set the stage for Palacios’ five-point string which put the lead at 18-9. Jesi Warren’s kill helped keep the drive alive and forced Jacksboro Coach Kelli Barnett into a timeout.
