Jacksboro’s finance personnel continued work on the 2022-23 fiscal year budget.

City Manager Mike Smith told aldermen at their July 25 meeting that while the city is not “in the weeds” with its budget, there is still several hundred thousand dollars to be cut from the upcoming budget. The city recently received its certified values as Monday was the deadline to submit them. The net taxable value dropped $303,665 from a year ago.

Smith said public hearings on the tax rate and the budget will be held at the next two meetings on Aug. 8 and Aug. 22. The budget will then take effect on Oct. 1.
