Janice Raye (Turner) Conner, 81, passed away Nov. 1, 2020 in Jacksboro. She was born on March 11, 1939 to Ollie Ray and Lora Lee Turner in Jack County.

Janice was raised by her grandmother Lucille Gowdy, who taught her the love of cows. Janice loved taking care of her “Girls” (cows). They were her everything. She never missed a day checking on them. She also had a love for sheltie dogs. The last one being Shadow who was given to Karen Umphress, who cared for her until she passed. Janice also loved cats. She always fed the strays, which drove her neighbors crazy. Along with animals, Janice loved reading and working crossword puzzles.

Twenty years ago, Star and Kenny Kinder became her friends. Janice was considered Star’s other mother and Janice adopted Kelly and Christa as her own granddaughters. Kelly’s boys, Blake and KC, and Christa’s girls, Adison and Adalyn, were her favorite.

Janice was an Eastern Star for over 50 years and was a faithful member of Christian Missions where she was loved for her famous pound cake. It was requested by many for their birthdays.

Above all else, she loved getting calls from her little brother, Sonny. She would always talk about him and the things that he was doing.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents and grandmother, Lucille Gowdy.

She is survived today by her brother, Lee O. “Sonny” Turner of Woodbridge, Va. and friends, Kenny and Star Kinder of Jacksboro.

Service was held Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at Christian Missions.
