Audie Thompson, of Weatherford, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Aug. 31. He was 84 years old.

A memorial service honoring his life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Grace Covenant Church in Weatherford,, officiated by Pastor Joel Kindberg. A visitation was held at 10 a.m. at the church. Graveside for the family followed at Perrin Memorial Garden Cemetery in Perrin. Arrangements are coordinated by Stephenville Funeral Home, in Stephenville Audie was born June 22, 1938 in Midland, to Claud and Bertie Lorene Thompson, the youngest of four children. They later moved to Oran, where he would attend Perrin schools. He married his Perrin High School sweetheart Martha (Woods) Thompson on July 28, 1956 soon after their high school graduation.

Audie’s working career included route driver, plant manager, rancher, and oilfield pumper.

He, Martha and their three daughters enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, tank fishing for crawdads, vacations in Colorado and he would coach the girls at home to play basketball. He was always present at their sporting events.

Their home was always open to the girls’ friends, never needing to be invited. More importantly he was always his daughters’ protector and spiritual mentor. He loved spending time in his study reading The Word and going through his library of concordances.

Audie was a faithful member of Grace Covenant Church and served as one of its first elders. He said many times that he was such a blessed 84 year old man. Even in his last days he was being a comfort to others and talking about being ready for heaven.

He was a man of integrity, strong and steadfast. They were able to fulfill their dream of retiring to Colorado. He never tired of the views along a jeep trail. He wanted to share that ‘awe’ with anyone he could take along with him up to the Colorado mountains. He was a member of the jeep club in Gunnison keeping the trails up and cleared for others to enjoy.

They enjoyed trekking all across the state following their grandchildren’s sporting events, where they were beloved by the teammates and their families.

At their home in Weatherford, they had great fun with their close friends playing dominoes each week, and, they enjoyed hosting their church Care groups over the years. Together they traveled in their motor home seeing many different states. They followed TCU sports, even going to the CWS in Omaha several years.

He was Boppa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loving and affectionate. He would always hug and kiss them ‘hello’ and again when they departed always telling them he loved them. He loved his little dog and sweet companion, Delilah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Claud (Red); and his sisters, Lavina and Margaret.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 66 years, Martha; their three daughters and spouses, six grandchildren and spouses, and 11 great- grandchildren.
