The Jacksboro FFA Chapter received the Gold rating for the Golden Horizon award during the 2016 State Convention.

The Jacksboro FFA has received several awards at the 88th Annual State Convention.

Tyler Rogers, Johnny Callan, and Maci Thomas received their Lone Star FFA Degree this week at the convention. This is the highest degree of membership the State FFA Association can award. FFA members may apply to receive the Lone Star Degree only after they have received the Chapter degree. Those wishing to receive their Lone Star Degree must have been an active FFA member for at least two years, complete at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth grade level, maintain a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, invest significant time and money in their SAE, demonstrate their leadership skills and show a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above.

Paige West also received a Houston Livestock Show Scholarship. Initially she has been awarded $18,000 but this scholarship is renewable once West has completed her Sophomore year for an additional $16,000. This makes this scholarship worth $34,000.

The Jacksboro FFA also received the Gold rating for the Golden Horizon Award. The Golden Horizon Chapter Recognition program is a state level award to provide a measurement tool for chapter officers and advisors and recognize chapters who succeed in involving a large number of members in the diverse array of activities available through the FFA.  This award recognizes a well-rounded local FFA chapter with an inclusive, progressive, aggressive program of activities that promotes maximum participation in order to deliver the leadership component of agricultural education.

Chapters are recognized within Single Teacher and Multiple Teacher divisions. Chapters are placed into Gold, Silver and Bronze categories, with the top 25% of chapters in each division receiving a Gold Ranking. Johnny Callan was also recognized as a Ford Scholar. The Ford Leadership Scholars program is a result of the Texas FFA Foundation, Ford Division, and Texas Ford Dealers partnership to enhance the leadership opportunities of Texas FFA members.

The purpose of the program is to: 1) Identify students who exhibit high levels of leadership at the chapter level. 2) Engage these identified students in a leadership development program created to enhance those qualities of leadership. 3) Recognize the scholars to build a remarkable legacy for the future of our state and nation.
