District Governor speaks to Lions

Jacksboro Lions Club is one the of the best in District 2 in recruiting, the district governor told members at the club’s regular Oct. 14 meeting.

Christina Schoonover said the club had six new members since July, which ties Stephenville for No. 1. Districtwide, 29 people became new Lions Club members. More than 1.3 million people are Lions members in 210 countries.

To keep things going strong, Schoonover encouraged each member to bring in two new members . Those that do will have their names put in for a drawing for $50 Since July, 29 members have come into district clubs and 29 have left.

Schoonover said she is working on a T-shirt for club members to be more visible in the district. She says many folks don’t know where Jacksboro is and this will help both inside and out of town.On a related note, Leslie Chalmers was installed as a club member during the meeting.

In Club news, it’s time for the annual Pack the Pickup Holiday Food Drive. In conjunction with Four Stars Ford and Jacksboro Community Food Pantry, the drive will be conducted Nov. 4-6 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lowe’s Market.

All sorts of non-perishable food items are needed but including rice, pasta, macaroni and cheese, beef stew, chicken noodle soup, canned vegetables, jelly, cereal, canned meats, snacks.

All food and monetary donations will be given to the Jacksboro Community Food Pantry to help with their monthly distribution. At the food pantry September distribution 107 families with 304 people served were recorded.
