Martinez charged in murder investigation

Jacksboro Police Department arrested Lee Martinez for a charge of murder related to an investigation Tuesday into a woman beaten to death.

The investigation began just before noon Tuesday, April 16 in the 400 block of North 4th Street, according to a press release from JPD Chief Bryan Corb. Police initially responded to a residence regarding a reported unintended death.

Districts weigh in on BISD 4-day week

With Bryson ISD looking at potentially going to a four-day calendar, other school districts have given their opinion on how it has impacted them. Perrin-Whitt CISD Superintendent Cliff Gilmore, who is in the second year of being a four-day district, said there were some bumps in the early going but things are going smoothly now.

JISD gives bond update

A bond construction and tornado construction update was given to Jacksboro ISD board members during the Monday, April 8 regular meeting. JISD Superintendent Brad Burnett said Gallagher Construction Services, which will supervise the bond construction has set up their construction trailer in front of the high school in preparation of work beginning by the end of the month.

City discusses skatepark funding

College Park Skatepark officials are being asked to show some of the money they’ve raised before work can get started. Jacksboro City Manager Mike Smith said, during the Monday, April 8 meeting, the land near the Jacksboro ISD Administration Building is ready but the city wants to see what the skatepark has been doing over the last few years.

Court discusses smoking

Jack County Commissioners took no action on the county overall policy on tobacco and smoking. As part of the April 8 meeting, Jack County Sheriff’s Office officials approached Judge Keith Umphress noting the JCSO policy states no smoking in patrol units.
