Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball team had something to prove Tuesday, Oct. 22 against visiting Iowa Park. The Tigerettes had not played their best match in the first meeting, a three-game Lady Hawk sweep.
On Senior Night, Jacksboro gave a gutsy performance throughout, but the visitors had too much in the tank late and dealt the Tigerettes a 3-1 setback. Jacksboro is now 5-5 in District 7-3A with two matches to play.
Brooke Reaves staked Jacksboro to a 2-0 lead in set one. The teams battled, but frontcourt work by Hayden Walker and Lilly Webster kept Iowa Park on its toes. The Lady Hawks went up 18-13 before Jacksboro broke serve and got within 18-17 on a three-point Brailyn Tullous string.
Iowa Park took a 21-17 lead. Webster’s kill set the table for Starr Wesson’s four-point run, helped by a Reaves block, which gave the Tigerettes a 22-21 lead. Iowa Park led 23-22, but the Tigerettes broke serve and Reaves served out set one with a pair, the finale put home by a Holly Lehman kill, in a 25-23 Jacksboro win.
Set two was back and forth much like the opener, with Jacksboro breaking serve on frontcourt work from Walker and Lehman. Sophomore Rylee Bennett broke things open with a three-point string, including two aces, as the Tigerettes went up 13-11. Iowa Park clawed back into the fray and tied the game twice late.
Lily Perez’s point gave Jacksboro its last lead at 22-21 before the Lady Hawks broke serve and rolled off the final three points in a 25-22 Lady Hawk win to knot the match at a set apiece.
A Webster single and Perez two-point run put Jacksboro up 5-3 in set three. Tullous gave the Tigerettes their largest lead at 7-4, but Iowa Park kept things close and took a 14-12 lead.
A Perez ace tied the game at 14-14 with Wesson knotting the game at 17-all, but Jacksboro didn’t take another lead as the visitors slammed the door late, Iowa Park taking the 25-19 win.
The Tigerettes once again took an early lead in set four, using single points from Webster, Bennett and Perez to go up 6-4. Jacksboro led 14-10 on a Bennett point, put home by a Walker block.
The Lady Hawks tied the match at 16-16 with the squads trading points the rest of the match. Webster and Walker broke serve with a dink and a block, respectively, but Iowa Park broke serve, tied at 24-24 and served up the final point to end the match, 26-24.
Jacksboro will host Henrietta in its final home match of the season Friday, Oct. 25. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
