Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball team suffered a home-court sweep Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the hands of Vernon with a 14-25, 13-25 and 17-25 setback to the Lady Lions.
The Tigerettes are now 4-4 in District 7-3A play.
Jacksboro had trouble getting any type of extended serving run going throughout the match, due in part to Vernon’s frontcourt being able to lay down a block or kill. The longest Tigerette run of the match was three points.
One of the two-point strings came from Holly Lehman, which gave the Tigerettes a 9-8 lead in game one. The Tigerettes led 10-9 before a 10-point Lady Lion string put the visitors up 19-10. Jacksboro picked up an ace from Lilly Webster to get within eight points but the Purple would get no closer.
Brooke Reaves staked Jacksboro to a 2-0 lead in game two, but the Lady Lions used multiple scoring runs to go up 7-3. Vernon used other scoring runs to slowly build its advantage. Single points from Rylee Bennett and Lily Perez kept things close for a while, but a five-point scoring string extended the lead into double figures at 21-10.
Hayden Walker’s block set up a Webster point to cut the lead to 21-12, but Vernon closed out the game to go up 2-0 in the best-of-five match.
Webster’s three-point run put Jacksboro up 4-0 in game three. The Tigerettes used kills by Walker and Brailyn Tullous to stay ahead, but Vernon tied the game at 7-7. A Perez point gave Jacksboro its last lead at 9-8.
A five-point Vernon run broke the game open at 20-11. A Starr Wesson pass and single serving point forced the Lady Lions into a timeout up 20-13. A pair of Bennett points brought Jacksboro within 21-16, but Vernon was able to close things out and end the match.
Jacksboro will host Henrietta at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.
