Jacksboro’s boys basketball team remained perfect at 2-0 Tuesday, Nov. 19 with a 65-17 win against Eastland at Tiger Gym.

The Tigers used a 17-0 run to start the game and cruised from there.

Seven points from Isaac Wesson and five from Brayden Rockey paced the opening run. Eastland got on the board with 32 seconds left in the quarter, but the Tigers led 19-3 after one.

Jacksboro opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run, led by two baskets and a free throw from Jarrid English. The Tigers, who converted 9-of-13 second quarter shots, also received pairs of baskets from Eli Jonas and Grady Brown to push the lead to 37-11 at the half.

Jacksboro, which had enough varsity players to have a team despite the football team still in the postseason, is gaining valuable experience which will help them during the season.

“We’re just happy to be playing basketball right now,” coach Alex Rodriguez said. “These are a lot of the offseason kids who are putting in the work at practice getting varsity experience. A lot of these kids like Isaac Wesson and Grady Brown got a lot of JV experience last year, and we’re expecting a lot out of them this year.”

Brown had a solid third quarter, taking feeds from Wesson and Rockey for easy baskets as part of a seven-point frame for the senior. Tyler Roberts and Gio Salazar had the other baskets to extend the lead to 50-15 entering the fourth quarter.

Another extended run, led by a pair of Wesson steals and baskets, extended the lead to 60-15. Jonas added a pair of buckets during the string. The Tigers converted 7-of-11 shots from the field in the quarter for a 50% shooting game (28-for-56).

Jacksboro had three players in double figures, led by Wesson with 15 points, Brown with 14 and Jonas with 13.
