Perrin BB falls to Alvord
PERRIN – Jasmine Bryant is a devout Perrin fan.
Even while watching the Pirate baseball team fall into a 26-0 hole Friday evening to visiting Alvord, Bryant continued to root on her schoolmates. The support clearly worked as the hosts responded late to finally get on the scoreboard and take a slight amount of pain out of the eventual 26-4, four inning setback.
The comeback in the bottom of the last inning opened with senior Chance Tessman leading off with a double just inside the first base line. He and freshman Tyler Welch switched places as Welch doubled down the left field line. to score Tessman and get Perrin on the board.
Sammy Hernandez’s single put runners at the corners. RW Aldridge’s sacrifice fly plated Welch for a second run. Landon Draper then ripped the third double of the inning, plating Hernandez, and scored on a throwing error. Anthony Pacheco picked up the fifth hit of the frame, an infield single but a strikeout ended the ocntest on mercy rule.
Alvord struck for five runs in the first, another 12 in the second and nine in the fourth. Alvord lefthander Jonah Ritchie set down the first nine in order.
The Pirates remain at home Tuesday afternoon to open the second round of district play with a 4:30 p.m. vs. Poolville. Perrin won the first meeting, 9-8.
